3. cute little things: cropped sweatshirt

below is a little cropped sweatshirt i got at urban a year or two ago.  even though it's a bit older, i still love it, wear it, and think that it's super cute.  plus these little half sweatshirts are still popular and are super easy to find.  i also think that the rose design is really pretty and feminine.

the reason i'm writing this post is to talk about how i wear cropped sweatshirts and why i like them so much.

why i like them:

first off, i am always cold.  i mean, obviously if it's warm out i'm fine, but if i'm in a air conditioned room or there's a slight breeze outside, it generally gets to me.  cropped sweatshirts are nice because they aren't usually heavy, and they only cover the arms and collarbone area, which will generally keep most of the body warm.  second, instead of being bulky and adding a lot of weight to an outfit, these mini sweatshirts are generally cute and leave a good amount of an outfit exposed.  in other words, they don't defeat the purpose of dressing cute when you have a feeling your outfit's going to be covered.  third, which leads me to how i wear, i love layering clothes, and crop sweatshirts/tops are one of the best layering pieces.

how i wear them:

as you can see in the picture, im wearing this cropped sweatshirt with a longer white tank under it.  this is a simple & easy way to wear this, and it'd look nice with jeans or leggings if the undershirt is long enough to cover your butt.
aside from wearing it with just shirts underneath, i've also worn this sweatshirt over a dress with tights, and that's a super cute way to make a summery dress transform into a winter-appropriate outfit.  you could even roll the sleeves up and pull this off in the summer & spring with a pair of high waisted shorts or a high waisted skirt.  there are so many different (yet all fashion forward & flattering) ways to wear these cropped sweatshirts, which is what makes them such a nice, versatile piece to have in your closet.

2. what i wore: homecoming 2011

so, my school's homecoming was back in october, but i figured this would be a great first look to post because this really gives a feel for what i'm into and how i pull myself together on a more fancy occasion.  i hope you like!

dress: BCBG
shoes: steve madden
makeup: done at benefit
hair: done at a salon by me
jewelry: boutique

nothing better than freshly done nails.  this color was picked to match my shoes & lip color.
the whole look.
a closer view of the detailing on the dress & my boyfriend.
a closer up shot to better show my makeup.  i went for a natural look on the eyes with big lashes and a darker lip to match my shoes.
the back of my hair all done.  it was all back in a slicked back pony tail which i thought went really well with the one shoulder design of the dress.

so that was my complete look for homecoming back in october.  it's always so much fun getting all primped & pretty for dances, definitely one of the experiences i will remember most vividly from high school.  where i live, we are lucky enough to have two school dances (homecoming and winter formal) every year and then prom too, if you're a junior/senior.  i went to prom last year as a junior, so maybe i will post that look one day, too.  anyways, the dance was a lot of fun and i felt very confident with how my vision came together.  more looks to come soon, xo.

1. an introduction

hi everyone (or the few of you who have stumbled upon/been advised by me to come here)! welcome to my wonderful, glamorous life of blogging. i'm so glad that you're taking the time out of your busy day to come read what i have decided to post here on my little blog.

my name is sam, or samantha if i'd like to be formal, i'm 18 years old, and i am getting ready to complete my high school career and move on to the bigger and better world of real life.  my goals and aspirations live in the fashion world; therefore, i thought it would be a good idea to begin blogging about those interests.  this way, not only do i have the opportunity to collect my thoughts in one place, but i am able to share my opinions with anyone who would like to listen to what i have to say.  i like to think i have a pretty good eye and opinion on what looks nice and what can go, so with that, i'm just about ready to begin!

on this blog, i plan on posting lots of different things.  i have so many ideas of different kinds of posts, from what i wore's, to pretty celebrities, to easy makeup ideas and good fashion/makeup combos.  i'll even post some of my evening outfits/dance wear/fancy stuff if i so feel the need.  i'll probably have some personal posts too, so i guess i'm going to just use this blog as a general outlet for me to get my thoughts and opinions out there.

aside from fashion/makeup/beauty, i also love music, i like to watch movies, i like to take pictures, i like to paint, and i love to lounge. who doesn't?

anyways, for those of you who have stuck with me through this whole post, thanks for reading and come back soon for new stuff.

xo, sam
